Project: Biddenden Green Farm, Smarden, Ashford, Kent – Barn Conversion
Value: Confidential
Client: Private
Role: Full pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying services
Sector: Residential
Contract: JCT Intermediate Form of Contract 2005
The Woodley Coles LLP were appointed to undertake pre and post contract quantity surveying services for the renovation and conversion of a 16th century barn into a luxury holiday let property. Undertaking a project on this listed structure generated a great deal of interest from many parties including the local planners, historians, conservationists and ecologists.
Most of the original structure was retained with a historic building timber frame specialist appointed to detail repairs and adaptations to the oak timbers. The building has been beautifully and sympathetically restored with the oak frame exposed and all new wood being oak in keeping with the original characteristics of the barn. The roof had been re-thatched, the original threshing panels restored and retained in their original locations and the resident bats now have their home in bat boxes located on the barn.
