This project involves the sympathetic extension of the existing 19th century school to provide additional ground floor teaching accommodation and children's toilets. Works include a link corridor, disabled toilet and first floor multi-function areas within the steeply pitched roof. Construction comprises trench fill foundations, insulated concrete beam and block ground floor, partial steel frame, floating timber first floor, timber staircase, load-bearing masonry walls and partitions, plain clay tile roof on traditional cut and pitched timbers, timber doors and sliding sash windows to match existing, together with floor, wall and ceiling finishes, decorations, mechanical and electrical installations and internal and underground drainage works.
Associated works include the demolition of a number of existing outbuildings, minor works of alteration throughout the existing school, internal redecoration, remodelling the existing children's/staff toilets to accommodate a new reception class toilet, disabled access ramp, reconstruction of an unstable retaining wall, replacement playground areas and other minor external works.
The Woodley Coles LLP was appointed to provide full pre- and post contract services including initial budget estimates, preparation of tender documents, evaluation of tenders and post-contract cost control through to agreement of the final account.
