The project involves internal re-modelling of existing library space to provide a new entrance area, learning spaces, technobooths and seminar rooms. The works comprise window repair and replacement, partition removal and formation of new room layouts, raised flooring to facilitate new services and IT installation. Modify existing services to provide new or upgraded heating, lighting, power, ventilation and IT facilities. The works will also include the rationalisation of the existing heating, electricity and gas infrastructure to Levels 2 and 3 of the University’s College Building.

The work was carried out as a “fast track” fit out during the summer vacation to minimise disruption to learning activities.

The Woodley Coles LLP was appointed to provide full pre- and post contract service including initial budget estimates, assistance in the preparation of tender documentation, evaluation of tenders and post contract cost control through to agreement of the final account. In addition, we were appointed to carry out the role of Employer’s Agent under the contract.

This scheme involves working in an occupied University building and the contractor will be required to maintain services to other floors whilst carrying out both the service and infrastructure changes. Parts of the scheme will have limited access periods within the overall programme. The contractor will be expected to manage his operations around these restrictions.
