Role: Contract Administrator
Sector: Education
Contract: GC Works 1
The Woodley Coles LLP was commissioned to carry out Contract Administrator Services for the creation of a new School of Arts on behalf of City University. Following an initial demolition contract, The School of Arts new facilities will include the replacement of the courtyard roof, general refurbishment and alterations to various zones within the basement, ground and first floor and the conversion of the existing redundant swimming pool into useable space. The existing building is a grade two listed building and the University is fully operational during these major refurbishment works.
The specialist music spaces are acoustically separated from adjacent rooms by incorporating acoustic isolations in the built details for walls, doors and service penetrations including a floating concrete floor slab in many areas to achieve the required isolation. There are also acoustic panels used on walls and ceilings to provide acoustic absorbency within the music rooms.
A new performance space facility has been created with a maximum audience capacity of 100 people accessed via a dedicated new foyer space. Within the performance space itself there is a fixed stage area set above the general floor level.
The project has a duration in excess of 60 weeks and built within 3 different sections of work.
