Community

Our aim, as a responsible local employer, is to give something back to the local communities that we serve.   As a professional service provider and reputable local business Woodley Coles endeavours to reflect the values of our surrounding community; to respect our neighbours and address the needs of the local area as a whole.   

 

Making a positive difference to communities today contributes to improving our society of tomorrow and creates a positive legacy of construction.  We recognise that we have a powerful role to play within society and ensure that we act in a sustainable, responsible manner.  Our approach is not just to engage with our communities but to invest our time, skills and other resources. 

 

Value is added to our local community in the following ways:

 

  • Charitable Giving     #15charitabledays

Every year we endeavour to return a small percentage of our profits back into the local community through charitable giving and support of our employees own fundraising initiatives such as 'Ella's Magic 13' and our Associate's recent Marathons.  It is important to us that we support local charities to continuously benefit our local community.  

 

 

In 2014 Woodley Coles were a main sponsor of the 'Light up the City' nightime run in Canterbury and continue to give our time as part of the steering committee for this annual event.

  • Volunteering

Our time is also donated through local volunteering initiatives and we look to instigate such events in close consultation with our clients, where possible.


Woodley Coles are a proactive member of the Kent Construction Focus Group promoting local excellence in terms of local people for local projects. 

 

  • Education

Our industry needs more ‘Ambassadors for Construction’ and Woodley Coles willingly adopts this role by visiting educational establishments, providing careers advice and promotional talks in a bid to address future skills shortages.  Work experience placements and apprenticeships form a critical part of this commitment and we look to offer opportunities, whenever possible and applicable.

 

As part of our schools engagement, Woodley Coles approached local school Bridge & Patrixbourne CEP to ask them to draw their favourite building or demonstrate their undertstanding of construction.  The resulting pictures were vibrant and inspiring and were included in our 2014 calendar which was sent out to our clients. 

  • Local Employment

All our team resides locally demonstrating naturally higher levels of commitment whilst ensuring we are supporting our local economy and immediately on hand to serve our customers. 

 

  • Skills Development

As ‘Investors in People’ and a RICS approved training provider, Woodley Coles are committed to the ongoing development of our people.  All staff are actively supported in their pursuit of Continuing Professional Development in alliance with other organisations.  Most are part of a structured, fully funded training programme (inc. fees & paid leave for course attendance) leading to chartered membership of RICS and everyone is fully supported to enhance their career.  Investing in our people ensures a loyal, engaged workforce and succession planning for the future, passing acquired skills directly to benefit our projects. 

For the last couple of years, Woodley Coles have had apprenticeships in partnership with East Kent College to continue our investment in people. So far, two apprentices have completed their Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration, and we currently have another apprentice undergoing the same qualification. As well as this, we also have two trainee Quantity Surveyors who are currently taking a university course.
