The existing village school site is being sold for redevelopment to fund the construction of a new traditionally constructed two-storey primary school on a green field site at the edge of the village.
The selected site poses a number of challenges including ecological measures to protect a number of species of protected fauna, a public footpath bisecting the site, diversion of an existing gas main and the provision of access through the site, during the course of the works, for a local authority contractor executing playing field and playcourt works under a separate contract.
Ground floor accommodation includes reception class, 2No. infant/junior classes, science room, hall, kitchen, administration areas and toilets. The first floor provides 2No. further classrooms, toilets, IT suite, library, small group room and and staff accommodation.
Construction comprises trench fill foundations, insulated concrete beam and block ground floor, partial steel frame, load-bearing masonry walls and partitions, plain clay tile roof on timber trusses, timber/aluminium composite doors and windows, together with floor, wall and ceiling finishes, decorations, mechanical and electrical installations and internal and underground drainage works.
Associated works include entrance atrium, sunken court, access road, parking, paving, hard and soft play areas, landscaping and new service connections.
The approximate gross internal floor areas for the scheme are:
Ground floor - 848m2
First floor- 513m2
